David L. Longworth, MD Named CEO of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center

Burlington, MA (September 17, 2018)  Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) today announced that David L. Longworth, MD has been named chief executive officer. Dr. Longworth has served as the interim CEO since April 2018 while also serving as Chief Medical Officer and Chair of the Department of Primary Care. His appointment follows a national search co-chaired by Howard Grant, JD, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lahey Health, and Ann Marie Connolly, Chair of the Lahey Clinic Foundation Board of Trustees. Search committee members included five board members, five senior physicians, and the hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer.

Dr. David Longworth, LMHC CEODr. Longworth joined Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in July 2015 as the Chair of the Department of Primary Care and Chief Medical Officer of the Community Physician Network where he successfully led physician engagement and primary care recruitment efforts. Prior to joining Lahey, Dr. Longworth spent more than 30 years in leadership positions at Cleveland Clinic and Baystate Medical Center. He began his career at the Cleveland Clinic where he spent 16 years practicing medicine in the department of Infectious Diseases, serving as Department Chair for 10 of those years. In 2002, he was recruited to Baystate Medical Center as Chair of the Department of Medicine. In 2011, he returned to the Cleveland Clinic as Chair of the Medicine Institute, where he also led the value-based care and population health initiatives for the enterprise.

Dr. Longworth received his undergraduate degree from Williams College, his medical degree from Cornell University, and he completed residency training in internal medicine at the University of California San Francisco, followed by fellowship training in infectious diseases at the combined Beth Israel–Brigham program.
