Lahey Health & Medical Center awarded an ‘A’ for patient safety by The Leapfrog Group

Burlington, Mass. – For the eighth time in a row, Lahey Health & Medical Center (LHMC) has earned an “A” grade for its continued commitment to patient safety in the Spring 2021 Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. The ratings signify how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm, including medical errors, injuries and infections within the hospital.

“We are honored to be recognized by The Leapfrog Group again,” said Andrew G. Villanueva, M.D., Chief Quality Officer, LHMC. “Our caregivers continue to demonstrate hard work and dedication to providing top quality and compassionate care in the safest possible environment for our community.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are determined with the guidance of an expert panel using 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data. Grades of A, B, C, D and F are assigned to more than 2,700 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

“An ‘A’ safety grade is an elite designation that your community should be proud of,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “The past year has been extraordinarily difficult for hospitals, but Lahey Health & Medical Center shows us it is possible to keep a laser focus on patients and their safety, no matter what it takes.”
