Innovative Treatments

Among the state-of-the-art procedures we offer is the Anterior Approach for total hip replacement. In this procedure, our surgeons work between the muscles and tissues without detaching them from the hip bone or thigh bone. The result is less pain, a faster recovery and better mobility, because healthy tissue is spared from trauma.

Our orthopedic surgeons also are experts at hip preservation surgery, especially for younger patients, in which the shape of the hip joint is changed to help relieve pain and improve motion while preserving the patient’s own cartilage/joint.

Unique at Lahey is our personalized approach to hip care. With their special expertise in all types of hip procedures, our surgeons develop a customized treatment plans from the full range of available options and based on individual needs.

Lahey is one of the few hospitals in the Boston area to participate in Medicare’s “Bundled Care” initiative for hip and knee replacements. In this model, hospitals work with physicians, home health agencies, skilled nursing facilities, and other providers to make sure joint replacement patients get quality, coordinated care.

This care includes consistent pre-surgical optimization, proven surgical techniques, team-based hospital care, and a personalized and proven post-operative plan to improve quality of life and get patients back to the activities they had been missing.
