Not all stroke centers are alike—the services they provide vary greatly, and national organizations rate these centers accordingly. Lahey Hospital & Medical Center has earned the highest possible rating from two independent rating agencies.
Advanced Care for Stroke
Stroke is caused by an interruption of blood flow to the brain, and when someone has a stroke it’s essential to get treatment quickly. Lahey’s Comprehensive Stroke Center has fine-tuned the process so patients are diagnosed in time to receive the right treatment for their specific type of stroke.
The stroke team at our Comprehensive Stroke Center is trained in all aspects of stroke care. They are available 24/7 with the most advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques. People with even the most complex types of stroke can expect the right care at the right time, as well as rehabilitation services to help them regain strength, movement and speech as they recover.
“With stroke care, you must have the best clinicians and resources but also the ability to act organizationally with extreme efficiency because of the time-critical nature of these events,” says Jayashri Srinivasan, MD, PhD, chair of the Department of Neurology at Lahey.
These certifications validate the efforts the stroke team has put into this program and ensure the health and safety of Lahey patients, Dr. Srinivasan says.
Commitment to Excellence
Both The Joint Commission and DNV–GL Healthcare base their standards on guidelines set forth by the American Stroke Association. Certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center demonstrates that patients and families can have the highest confidence in the care they receive. Other centers in the area also have confidence in Lahey’s Comprehensive Stroke Center, and often transfer stroke patients to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center for state-of-the-art treatment.
“Achieving certification shows commitment to excellence,” says Patrick Horine, CEO of DNV GL–Healthcare. “And it helps demonstrate to your community that you are performing at the highest level.”
