Early Lung Cancer Detection
Lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer death among men and women in the United States. Early detection can increase the 5-year survival rate for stage 1 lung cancer to nearly 90%.
Low-Dose CT Lung Screening
If you are at high-risk for lung cancer, a low-dose computed tomography (CT) lung screening could save your life. Lahey is a pioneer in using this technology to find lung cancer early. Most cancers found through this screening program are stage 1 — the most treatable stage.
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center was the first facility in the United States to be designated an accredited Lung Cancer Screening Center by the American College of Radiology. In fact, Lahey was used as a model program, helping to set standards for others to follow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Screening is recommended for those 50-80 years old with a history of smoking one pack of cigarettes a day for 20 years (or an equal amount), and currently smoke or have quit in the past 15 years.
Most insurance providers, including Medicare, cover lung cancer screening if you meet the guidelines and are referred by your doctor. Check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage for screening.
