Phototherapy

Phototherapy is called light therapy. It involves exposure to ultraviolet light (UVB, UVA or both). It is often used for eczema all over the body. It helps ease itching and inflammation.

Possible long-term effects may be:

  • Premature aging of the skin
  • Skin cancer

    If other treatments fail, other medicines may be tried. Examples may be:

    • IV immunoglobulin
    • Mycophenolate Mofetil
    • Alitretinoin

    Foods that trigger symptoms may be avoided. Supplements may also be used.

    Counseling, support groups, and services may be helpful. They can offer support in coping with the stresses of eczema.

    Wraps with medicine can be applied to affected areas. They can help ease moderate to severe symptoms.
