There are no current guidelines to prevent hyperthyroidism.

Taking too much thyroid hormone replacement medication can result in hyperthyroidism. Follow your treatment plan and get blood tests done regularly. In some cases, excess iodine intake may result from taking kelp supplements, and may cause hyperthyroidism.
