People with TMD may have:
- Pain or muscle spasm in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) or temple
- Problems opening the mouth fully
- A feeling of the jaw catching or locking—when opening or closing the mouth, or while chewing
- Popping, clicking, or grating sounds or feelings—while eating and drinking
- Pain in the jaw, face, ear, or neck
- Headache
- Swelling on one or both sides of the face
- Ringing in the ears
