The Lahey Urology Advanced Practice Fellowship is a comprehensive one-year training program. Applications are accepted through a rolling admissions process for two AP providers. Learn more about our urology fellowship program below.

Lahey Hospital & Medical Center offers a unique, intensive, full-time urology fellowship program for physician assistants and nurse practitioners.

We shape the future of advanced urologic practice by preparing physician assistants and nurse practitioners to be highly skilled, collaborative, compassionate, professional providers who embrace the values of integrity and academia.

This full-time residency-style training program is funded by Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, which means fellows are hired as employees with full benefits.

Our urology providers practice in Burlington, Lexington and Peabody, Massachusetts, and some portion of training will likely occur at each of these sites. All department physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners participate as preceptors in the program.

Our comprehensive training program prepares advanced practice providers to deliver outstanding urologic care to patients. Eligibility Requirements

Our program is designed for either a nurse practitioner BSN (MSN preferred) with a current RN license and ACNP certification prior to start date (FNP may be accepted with prior approval) OR a physician assistant of an AR-PA accredited PA program in good standing with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (preferably master’s) with PANCE certification. Providers are required to hold a current MA state license with BLS and ACLS certification prior to starting the program. Prior experience as a provider is preferred but not required.

Application Procedure & Selection Process

Complete applications are reviewed on a rolling admission basis. Incomplete applications will not be presented to the selection committee.. Interviews are extended to candidates with strong applications.

  • A personal statement, including future professional goals in the field of urology
  • A curriculum vitae, including a description of past urologic experience, if any (not required)
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation, at least one coming from your current or recent supervising physician
  • A completed Urology Fellowship Handbook.

Curriculum

The Lahey Institute of Urology APP Fellowship is comprised of a 12-month period of didactic education and clinical rotations while working as a staff AP. During this time, fellows work with identified mentors that include, but are not limited to, senior staff APs, urology residents, and urology attendings. Fellows see patients in their own clinic and will receive regular performance evaluations to ensure appropriate progress.

A wide range of clinical disease is presented, but continuous self-learning and independent research and/or quality improvement project is an essential component to this fellowship. Experience is gained in many aspects of urology including:

This fellowship covers the full spectrum of urologic care for advanced practice providers interested in pursuing a career within this specialty. It’s an intense and demanding experience with unique opportunities for clinical advancement and options for electives.

A. Each fellow is paid an $80K stipend for the fellowship year.

Q: What are some of the responsibilities involved with the program?
A: Our fellows work and learn in the inpatient, outpatient and OR settings. They work both independently as providers and dependently with preceptors.

Q: Where do your fellows usually end up working?
A: Several graduates have been offered positions at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center following successful completion of fellowship. Some have been employed at large, multi-specialty group practices in the Boston area while others have joined private practices. The demand for urology APs is continuously increasing, and our graduates have found wonderful opportunities both in and beyond Massachusetts. All graduates have been employed after completing our program.
